Reporting email abuse helps us fight it better!

NetZero has a zero-tolerance policy for spam and Internet abuse in general, and we are committed to protecting our members against such abuse. When you report spam to us, we place the appropriate filters on our servers to ensure that the spam will not be delivered to you in the future. We also forward the complaint to the originating domain so they can take further action against the spammer.

Spam

To report spam, please forward a copy of the unsolicited/offensive message you received with its full headers, to NetZero's Spamdesk at spamdesk@support.netzero.com. You can directly report spam using our Message Center interface. This will enable us to investigate your complaint and take the appropriate action.

You could also report the spam directly to the postmaster of the domain from which the message originated. To learn more, please visit http://spam.abuse.net/userhelp/howtocomplain.shtml

To learn more about full headers, please click here. To obtain information on how to report a message with full headers using your current email program, please click here.

Frauds

Email frauds/scams are spoofed/falsified emails that are designed to fool recipients into revealing their personal data, such as passwords, social security numbers and credit card information. Often the mail is made to look genuine by mimicking messages from innocent and popular companies. Email frauds/scams, pyramid schemes and fraudulent commercial solicitations are illegal. If you receive any such fraudulent messages, please forward a copy of the message, with its full headers, to the domain from which the message originated and to the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov.

To learn more about email fraud and scams and how to report them to the appropriate authorities, please click here.

To help us protect you better from such email fraud/scams, please remember to forward such messages with their full headers to spamdesk@support.netzero.com or report them as junk using the 'Report Junk' feature in Message Center.

Unsolicited Personal Email

If you receive an unsolicited personal message that appears to be intended for someone else, you may wish to inform the sender that they have misaddressed their mail and that you do not wish to be contacted again. If you continue to receive messages from this sender, please forward a copy of each unwanted message, with full headers, to abuse@support.netzero.com with the word 'threat' in the subject line. Also remember to include a brief description of the problem/concern along with the message. Please note that we cannot take action against an account unless we have full headers of the message.

What are message headers or full headers?

Message headers, or commonly called full headers, contain routing information for messages, including the sender, the recipients, the date when the message was sent, and the path it followed through the network from the sender's computer to the recipient's computer. They are useful in re-tracing the path of the mail and establishing its origin.

Full headers though transmitted with each email message, are not always visible. They can be viewed by selecting a 'Show headers' option from your mail software menu.

A sample header looks like the one below:

Received: from mail.recipient.com (mail.recipient.com [255.255.255.255]) by recipient.com (8.6.13/8.7.Alpha.4/1.34.) with ESMTP id ABCD12345 for <recepient@recepient.com> Fri, 6 Jun 1997 23:17:44 -0400

Received: from mail.sender.com (mail.sender.com [255.255.255.254]) by mail.recipient.com (8.8.6.Beta0/8.8.6.Beta0/2.0.) with ESMTP ABCD12345 for <recepient@recepient.com>; Fri, 6 Jun 1997 23:08:27 -0400 (EDT)

Received: from original.sender.com (original.sender.com [123.456.78.90]) by mail.sender.com (8.8.6.Beta0/8.8.6.Beta0/2.0.) with ESMTP id ABCD12345 for <recepient@recepient.com>; Fri, 6 Jun 1997 23:08:25 -0400 (EDT) X-Mailer: Whatever-Mail-Program-The-Sender-Used

Steps to enable full headers:
